I had a one-way flight with Lynx on January 8th from Toronto to Halifax. The flight booking stipulated no carry-ons on this flight; personal items only. I went out and bought a 6x13x17 personal air bag and left my suitcase and belongings at my son’s house to travel home to NS. When I got to Pearson Airport (YYZ), I measured my personal item bag in the offical silver racks and it fit easily. Went I got to the departure gate, the attendants brought out a CARDBOARD BOX and said that we all had to measure our bags in it!?! My bag fit into the box with lots of room to spare and she tagged the bag as a personal item.. All was well until boarding time when they started pulling people out of line to go and pay for a carry-on?!? I was pulled too although I had been tagged as having a personal item. I asked to use the silver measuring rack to measure my bag; they wouldn’t let me although it was sitting at the end of the counter and told me that I had to pay $90 or the alternative was to not get on the plane. They pulled many people out of the boarding line for the same reason and their bags had been tagged as personal items as well. The attendants were very rude and pushy. There was bedlam and the plane took off 20 minutes late. I have decided not to use Lynx again (when you pay for the carry-on, the total cost is greater then WestJet or Porter), but I have already purchased tickets for my son’s to visit on Feb. 4th and I’ve purchased a carry-on for them at $158.18. Will they also charge my sons an extra $360 for their personal items to and from Toronto to Halifax??? Do they have the right to refuse us from measuring our bags in the offical luggage measurement racks? This is a Canadian airline and I am appalled at the blatant behaviour and disrespect they are showing their customers. I have tried to talk to someone at the airlines about this but their 877-897-5969 (that is the number on the business card given to me during the feasco boarding of Jan. 8th) is not working and the only option is the virtual bot on the chat line which is useless. I am actually scared to use this airline again!! I am a senior on a fixed income and cannot afford their “surprises”. Please be cautious using this airlines because their policies, practices and instructions can change very quickly!
